Experience

My educational and professional background includes psychodynamic psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, research in public health and social sciences, and the study and practice of Theravada Buddhism, which has a lot of overlap with the forms of psychotherapy I find most powerful.

I have provided psychotherapy and medication management in a range of psychiatric settings including medical clinics, day programs, public and private hospitals, prisons, and substance abuse programs. In addition to my private practice, I am on the clinical faculty at Stanford Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences and I serve as the psychiatric consultant at the Ravenswood Family Health Center in East Palo Alto.

Teaching is another large part of my professional work. At present, I teach the basics of depth psychotherapy to residents in the Stanford Psychiatry residency program, I run a case consultation group for Baywell Psychiatry, and I teach my own course for Stanford undergraduates called “How to Think Like a Shrink”.
